What is CrossFit?
CrossFit, Inc. is a not just a fitness company, but it is a philosophy of physical exercise and as a competitive fitness sport. CrossFit workouts incorporate high-intensity interval training, Olympic weightlifting, plyometrics, powerlifting, gymnastics, girevoy sport, calisthenics, strongman, and other exercises. Originally founded by Greg Glassman and Lauren Jenai in 2000, it caught on very quickly and today, there are more than 10,000 coaches associated. Beginning in 2007, the first “Crossfit games” began and have continued every year since. The founder of CrossFit stated that, “CrossFit is not a specialized fitness program, but a deliberate attempt to optimize physical competence in each of 10 recognized fitness domains.” Those domains are: cardiovascular and respiritory endurance, stamina, strength, flexibility, power, speed, coordiantion, agility, balance, and accuracy.

What do they teach me?
The owner and operator of Do Work – Lees Summit CrossFit, Robby McCord and his wife, develop the exercises to suit the individuals needs. The Do Work – Lees Summit CrossFit program starts with a tour of their equipment, including the workout board that lists the individuals tailored WOD (workout of the day). Then, you begin learning the three forms of squatting, a couple forms of pull ups and will get trained on the rowing machine. They take about two weeks helping you learn correct form, as they are very big on avoiding any personal injury. When you have completed the assigned reps, you get to jump into the class at the level that you are ready for. Robby is very good at developing each person’s program to match what they need to help push them further into success. Do Work – Lees Summit CrossFit pays attention to individual need and promote personal health, making exercise a part of everyday activity and building from foundation up.
